Design Statement

This monogram was created using only square units on a self-constructed grid. I aimed to create a unified yet dynamic composition where each letter maintains individual character while contributing to a balanced whole. I explored bold forms that rely on negative space and balance to define each letter. To ensure the letters have a cohesive system as a typeface, I used consistent stroke weight applied to similar letterforms and a monospaced grid logic. I incorporated subtle shifts in structure such as open counters and asymmetrical alignment to introduce individuality within the system. The square-only restriction pushed me to find creative structural solutions. I avoided stair-stepping and embraced strong vertical and horizontal tension to work around curves and diagonals.
